What genre of photography and why?
We had a lecture today within professional practice where I was asked which genre of photography would best suit me. At this stage I am not in a position to answer this question, although we have been shown all of the genres I will need to do more research to see which one would be suitable.

With no real direction in mind yet; I can say I am attracted to fashion and believe I would be competent due to the line of work I have already undertaken. However, at the same time, still photography is also quite attractive but I have no experience in this. I am looking forward towards participating in this area during the advertising brief.

What does a Fashion Photographer do?

• Fashion Photographers photograph seasonal garments and clothing ranges by designers or brands.
• The photographer will work in studios and on location.
• The industry is always looking for originality and innovation within, they must always be aware of the new trends.
• Fashion photographs can be hired for many different shoots ranging from mail-order catalogues and websites, to high-fashion magazines.
• Fashion Photographers normally work within a team, which includes art directors, editors and other creative support staff. The photographer will be directed and not be required to show much imagination.
• They must also develop and maintain contacts within the fashion industry and the fashion publishing business. They must also have excellent knowledge of fashion history.

Whats involved in still photography
What is involved in still photography?

Still photography is normally carried out in controlled conditions (within a studio); although it is becoming more common for this to be conducted outside. A still life photographer must be even more meticulous and concentrate on perfecting lighting. He must also be very highly skilled in post-production, paying extra attention to detail. He is in fact creating the image rather than taking a lucky shot; I would say that doing this sort of photography can be frustrating but at the same time less pressure than fashion photography. I like the idea of being responsible for creating pictures to go on food product packaging; who wouldn’t like to take pictures of cakes?

Research wedding Photography wage

After looking in to how much a wedding photographer really earns, I was shocked to see how the amount varied. A freelance wedding photographer is estimated to earn anywhere from £16,250 to £45,500 a year; depending on where geographically in the UK they are working and how well known they are.

Denis Reggie

He describes his camera as an extension of his mind’s eye. He started using a camera when he was a child; this kept him off the football team, but he turned this around and took sports pictures, this could be why he always appears to be in the right place at the right time when shooting a wedding. His photographs capture the joy of the human spirit.
After college Reggie found his niche in wedding photography, he detested the “look here and smile” standard photography. He instinctively knew there was a better way to photograph a wedding. He thought it was a better idea to photograph at an unobtrusively level enabling him to tell the couple’s story with spontaneous photographs.

My thoughts about Denis Reggie’s work

I appreciate the work of Denis Reggie, I actually use this sort wedding photography myself, but I don’t agree this would work for the entire wedding. My reason for saying this is that every client that I have met for a pre-wedding meeting has always state they require formal family photos after the ceremony. I don’t mean to take anything away from Reggie’s work; his images are amazing capturing every piece of the couple’s day.
